How to dilute clove oil with olive oil and use it to temporarily relieve your toothache

I, for one, cannot think of the worst pain but toothache. It is the kind of pain that can ruin your day and night in one single strike. Fortunately, there is clove oil that has been known for and considered as one of the most popular natural home toothache remedies due to its antiseptic and anesthetic power.

There are, however, three important things that you really should take into consideration before using clove oil for relieving your toothache temporarily:

  1. Use clove oil only as temporary pain relief and not a permanent solution.
  2. Pure clove oil is very potent and it may burn your skin or cause you to vomit if you use it at full strength.
  3. Do a skin test to find out if you are allergic to cloves.

Please note that when you are allergic to cloves or if you do get any kind of allergic reaction from clove oil (during and after the skin test), do not follow this tutorial, and make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible instead.

What you need to do:

  1. Pour one part of the clove oil and two parts of the olive oil into the small jar.
  2. Put the lid of the small jar back on, shake it until it dilutes properly, and the diluted clove oil is ready to be used.
  3. Brush your teeth as usual and drink some water (the clove oil can cause dryness or thirst). So, you’d want to drink some water first before you get thirsty, and get the urge to swallow the diluted clove oil.
  4. Moist a cotton bud with the diluted clove oil, apply it gently on/around your toothache and apply some more if necessary.
  5. Be patient and wait a few minutes until the clove oil works its magic.
  6. Make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible for a permanent solution.

I just wanted to say I didn’t know to dilute the Clove oil. I was in pain and it was at night, so I put ONE drop on a cotton gauze pad and slid it between my upper lip so it could rest on my tooth. Well it burned my gum and after 10 minutes are so, my tooth stopped hurting and I removed it. The next day I realize it had burned my gum tissue, and when I say burned, it looks like a 2rd degree burn because there is bloody skin showing. I know to dilute Oil of Oregano but didn’t think about diluting Clove oil.

Unclear. Are you using teaspoon measurements?

      Hello Betty,

Thanks for commenting. Actually, it doesn’t matter what measurement you use (it could be teaspoon, tablespoon or cup’s measurement) as long as you dilute β…“ of the clove oil and β…” of the olive oil to get 1 diluted clove and olive oil.

It means, if you would like to use teaspoon measurements:

β…“ of the clove oil + β…” of the olive oil = 3/3 = 1 diluted clove and olive oil
1 teaspoon of the clove oil + 2 teaspoons of the olive oil = 3 teaspoons = 1 diluted clove and olive oil

Just a reminder: Run a skin test to find out if you are allergic to cloves.

Should you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask me. Good luck!

      Regards, Lia
