How to indulge your magazine addiction with Prime Reading, Texture and Readly

When my orchid started to bloom about 3 weeks ago, I was quite convinced that spring was already in the air. Obviously, it was just my wishful thinking because the fact was and is that the wintertime is still very much alive. And judging from how my cat Sintra curls up, the temperature has indeed been getting colder.

Exactly in time like these – low temperature, some snow showers and flu season – I love spending my well deserved me time only in the company of my most favorite things, including a few cups of hot green tea, aroma diffuser, my tomcat’s purrs and some digital magazines on my iPad.

As an Amazon Prime member, I have been delighted with Prime Reading, which allows me to borrow Prime books, books with Audible Narration, Comics, and of course Magazines, included with Prime membership. Thanks to Prime Reading, I have saved a lot of money that I would otherwise have spent on separate weekly, monthly or yearly digital magazine subscriptions.

However, since it is included with Amazon Prime membership, which means is free and at no additional charge, the Prime magazine issues and other Prime Reading items are chosen for you, so the selection always comes a surprise, and you are only allowed to borrow 10 Prime Reading items at once.

What it actually means is that you are allowed to borrow all of the Prime Prime Magazines, which are on Prime Reading’s monthly selection, but you then have to keep returning the previous issues in order to borrow new issues, so you don’t have more than 10 different magazine issues at once, or a combination of those Prime books, books with audible narration, comics, and magazines.

It also means that if you want to read O, The Oprah Magazine, The New Yorker, National Geographic Magazine, Real Simple Magazine and your other favorite digital magazines that you cannot live without, whenever you feel like reading them, you’ll be a little bit disappointed because the Prime magazine selection keeps on rotating, and you never know what you’ll be getting in the next rotation.

So, if you are an adventurous magazine reader with the need for endless surprises and neverending discoveries, the Prime Magazine is your only place to be for reading digital magazines because its selection is immensely huge. In fact, three of my favorite magazines Natural Medicine Magazine, Catster, and Dogster were once featured in the Prime Magazine selection, but not included with neither Texture Premium nor Readly.

Evidently, if you are addicted to your favorite digital magazines and you want to get those need fixing whenever you want, wherever you want, then the next two unlimited digital magazine subscriptions are highly recommended.

1. Texture: 200+ magazines

Texture is also known as Texture Premium on Amazon.com is one and the same digital magazine subscription, which gives you unlimited access to 200+ magazines for one low monthly price. The best of U.S. and some of Canadian magazines titles are included (click here to see the full list of 200+ magazines) plus bonus digital content.

I have been an avid, diehard National Geographic Magazine reader for my whole life and I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that all of National Geographic Society’s magazines like National Geographic Magazine, National Geographic Traveler, National Geographic History, National Geographic Kids and National Geographic Little Kids are included with Texture subscription.

I am also falling in love with Texture’s recommended articles, which allows you to instantly save a story or an article from an issue to your own collection for later reading. You can also create your own magazine-like collection from a lot of articles with the same subject, for instance, I miss reading Dr. Oz The Goodlife Magazine, so I save all of the articles written by Dr. Oz to my “Dr. Oz Collection.”

The other favorite Texture’s feature is its interactive magazines-supported feature, which enables magazines like O, The Oprah Magazine, The New Yorker, National Geographic Magazine to truly come alive when you read it on your iOS devices or tablets.

One downside of Texture subscription that I have so far noticed is that Texture is currently only available within the U.S. and Canada.

Update: Goodbye, Texture. Hello, Apple News+

A few days ago, I received an email from Texture telling me that Texture service is ending, and has now turned into Apple News+, which brings over 300 magazine titles and leading newspapers The Wall Street Journal and L.A. Times. I have been enjoying my free 1-month trial of Apple News+ ever since, and I will be updating this blog post in a month or two.

One thing for sure that just like Texture, Apple News+ is available only in the United States and Canada. So, international readers from outside the U.S. and Canada have to wait (usually) a long while for Apple News+ subscription to go international, if ever.

But don’t worry because if you are an international digital magazine reader who loves to read international magazines in different languages, you will certainly love Readly.

2. Readly: 3,946+ magazines

If you are not only addicted to but also hungry for multilingual digital magazines, like I am, then Readly is definitely your best friend. Ready gives you unlimited access to more than 3,946 US & International including German, UK, France, Italian magazines, plus 91,585 back issues all in one single subscription.

I am crazy about reading and browsing the well written BBC Wildlife Magazine, World of Animals, History Revealed and Gardeners’ World. The one and only thing I don’t love about those UK magazines are obviously their prices. At well over $19.99 annual subscription each (compared to the average U.S. magazine annual prices), they are surely not easy to be loved, at least not by me.

It is why at just $9.99 a month Readly is a necessary fix for my own magazine addiction, which I fully enjoy daily. Lust auf Natur, Psychologie Heute, eat healthy, Gehirn & Geist, Spektrum der Wissenschaft, and the newly entered Geliebte Katze are only some of my favorite magazines in German, which is one of the languages I have been trying to freshen up.

Furthermore, I, myself, am not really into Sudoku, Crosswords and other puzzles but they are included with Readly, which you can actually play and fill out interactively on your iOS devices and other tablets.

Readly also allows you to search, share, save as favorite or save as a bookmark. You can scroll, turn your magazine into a double page layout, and turn the magazine view into a text view for easy reading. With Readly you can make a beautiful screenshot before sharing it to your social media account.

Another Readly’s feature that really stands out is that you can read your Readly magazines up to 5 devices simultaneously. Besides, you can also create 5 individual user profiles. So, one single Readly subscription is enough for the whole family to enjoy.

Although you are currently unable to subscribe to Readly on Amazon.com, you can easily create a free Readly account, which comes with a full month of free 3,946 US & International including German, UK, France, Italian magazines. Click here to try free for a full month with Readly.

Update:

My Dutch readers, please rejoice for Readly is now available in the Netherlands with more than 80 Dutch magazines plus the 3,946 US & International including German, UK, France, Italian magazines plus 91,585 back issues. Click here to try free for a full month with Readly.
