Getting to know your newly Kindle Paperwhite can take a little time, especially when you have never owned an Amazon Kindle e-reader before. Once you get to know it, you’ll agree that all of the Kindle Paperwhite’s content is very well organized and categorized.

When you purchase some newspapers, magazines or blogs as a single issue or as a subscription, which will automatically be delivered on a regular basis, you’ll find them on your Device -> Periodicals. Periodicals also include newspapers that you get (daily) using Calibre’s Fletch News, which I am using now as an example for this blog post.

On your Device’s home screen your periodicals are listed according to the most recent issue of each periodical you have on your Kindle Paperwhite. The older issues that you might have, are listed in Periodicals: Back Issues on your Kindle Paperwhite.

When you are reading a periodical such as a newspaper, magazine or blog, the toolbars are configured specifically for periodicals. Tap the top the screen of your Kindle Paperwhite to display the toolbar. There are four major buttons displayed on this toolbar:

1. The periodical home button: You can tap this periodical home button to display highlights of the issue you are currently reading (see image above, arrow 1).

2. Sections and Articles button: you can tap this button to display hierarchical lists of sections and articles in this issue (see image above, arrow 2.). Note: This sections and articles button is available in newspapers and magazines, but not in blogs.

The secondary toolbar is available when you are reading a periodical and are on the article detail page (see image below, arrow 3. and 4.). This toolbar includes:

3. Text button: You can tap this text button to display font and text options for your periodicals, such as font size, typeface, line spacing, and margins (see image above, arrow 3.).

4. Clip This Article button: tapping this button allows you to clip an entire periodical article to the My Clipping file (see image above, arrow 4.).

This “My Clipping” file stores all of your notes, bookmarks, highlights, and clipped articles and is located on your Home -> Device -> Doc of your Kindle Paperwhite.

On the Amazon Kindle Newsstand (Amazon US) you can purchase a lot of Kindle Magazines, Kindle Newspapers, and Blogs on Kindle. Purchasing periodicals as a subscription is cheaper in the long run than purchasing them as a single issue.
