As a blogger, I always do my best to make sure that my blog posts ranks well in search engines. So, I check how my blog posts are doing on Google, Yahoo and Bing every single day.

This morning I was stunned when I came across a blog that had copied one of my top blog posts, titled Tip: How to charge your Kindle Paperwhite without computer on and without blowing it up?, both its original title and its original content. The different is that my original blog post has been updated several times.

I know that there is an idiom that says:

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It means that copying someone is flattering because it shows you want to be like that person.

But when does it come to the point when imitation is NOT at all the sincerest form of flattery? My answer is: when this kind of imitation has caused your search engine ranking dropped to (almost) the bottom of search engines. As it has been happening to my SER since March 6th, 2013. And believe me, there is absolutely nothing flattering about this SER dropping.

I got so angry, NO, I was actually very furious when I also found out that his/her copied blog post in fact ranks higher on Google than my original blog post. Of course, I wanted to send this “blogger” a very angry furious email and ask him/her to remove that copied blog post. Then I started to count from 1 to 10 and finally I decided to search for (some) better ways to dealing with this kind of unflattering imitation.

Thankfully, I’ve found this blog post How to Report a Blog Copying your Content to Google by Don Caprio. So, if you are a blogger, these are the Must-Do’s when you are dealing with a blog that copying your original blog post:

• Get angry
• Get furious
• Count from 1 to 10
• Read the blog post mentioned about
• Look for similar blog post if necessary
• Do something about it
